The BELWIN 21ST CENTURY BAND METHOD is Belwins premier band method. Written by Jack Bullock and Anthony Maiello, Level One of the method is comprised of books for all the primary band instruments plus electric bass and guitar, videos for every instrument family, and an accompaniment CD. The entire method is also available for Vivace(R) Intelligent Accompaniment(TM) by Coda Music Software. Motivational aspects are emphasized, such as using frequent duets and rounds, popular Warner Bros.-copyrighted tunes as well as classical, tradi- tional, folk, and other styles, and Songs Just for the Fun of It, which appear at strategic learning intervals. Most of all, the Level One book can be completed in just one year, which encourages students to want to learn more. Lessons are carefully sequenced, and include: in-depth rhythm study, consistent reinforcement of topics newly presented, and theory exercises. As well as classical, world music, and patriotic pieces, there are 11 popular standard songs, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Sleigh Ride, A Trumpeters Lullaby, The Little Drummer Boy, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Id Like to Tevery the World to Sing, The Syncopated Clock, Were Off to See the Wizard, The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down, and Theme from Star Wars. The Two Commissioned performance pieces are Celtic Air and Dance by Elliot del Borgo, and Destiny by Larry Clark. All exercises, songs, and performance pieces are on one CD accompaniment. In addition, accompaniments are available on SmartMusic by Coda Music Technology; most of the pieces have multiple choices of different styles of accompaniments.
